Twenty-three battles of the American Civil War, fought on the maps that recorded them.

Civy War is a real-time battle game. You command an army from above: pick your ground, send regiments marching, hold the high ground or storm it, and take (or keep) the field before night falls. Choose the Union or the Confederacy, and three enemy skill levels.

The battles

  • The great four: Antietam, Gettysburg, Chancellorsville and Shiloh.
  • Historical Campaigns: Gettysburg day by day (including Pickett's Charge), Antietam hour by hour (the Cornfield, the Sunken Road, Burnside's Bridge) and both days at Shiloh, on the period battlefield surveys, with the real order of battle.
  • Grant's Campaigns: follow Ulysses S. Grant from Fort Donelson to Appomattox, seven battles on the Army's own maps, with a campaign map where your losses carry from battle to battle.
  • Forgotten Fields: Roanoke Island, New Bern, Cedar Mountain and Fort Wagner.
  • The Drill Field: a five-minute guided lesson, plus a Field Manual of period tactics.

Features

  • Real-time battles with pause: give orders while paused, then speed up to 2x or 4x.
  • Terrain that matters: high ground, woods, stone walls, sunken roads, earthworks, creeks and bridges.
  • Formations (line, column, skirmishers), morale, rallying, ammunition, fatigue, veterans and green troops, digging in, reinforcements marching on.
  • Fog of war: you only see what your men can see.
  • After every battle: your losses in men beside the real ones, and "What Really Happened", with Grant in his own words.
  • Period maps or clean documentary maps; units as counters or as period map symbols.
  • Full mouse and keyboard controls, with every hotkey shown in the game. Everything included, no purchases.
